spring flower arrangement
Snapshot of Today

Snapshot of My Life Today 4/23/22

I figured I’d shake things up a bit today and come at you with a Snapshot post that happened on a Saturday rather than during the week! It’s been a super busy past several days here as our flower farm’s bouquet subscriptions started up this week since we finally have enough flowers coming on to make up bouquets. Spring was definitely a little later arriving this year, but it’s always so worth it as soon as those blooms all come.

It just never gets old.

Here’s what today has looked like thus far:

Today’s CSA arrangement that went out

Time I woke up: We actually got to “sleep in” today until 7:45, which felt glorious. I figured I’d best enjoy it while I can, because even once Raven is out of school (and we therefore don’t have to get her up around 6:45 for that), I’ll be needing to set my alarm for around 6 a.m. most mornings to go out and harvest flowers. Worth it, though!
First thing I did upon waking: I wanted to give Matt a few extra minutes of sleep since he’s been waking up extra early all week to go into work early so he could come home and work on my new garden beds in the afternoon, so I quietly left the room and went to go get Hyrum out of his crib and get breakfast started for the kids. Of course, after they were set up with breakfast, I thought I was safe to go out and harvest hyacinths and daffodils, and…the kids woke up Matt 🙂
Current weather: overcast and chilly — around 45 degrees. We did have a warm week overall though, which was why all of our spring flowers have suddenly started exploding into bloom everywhere.

Okay, so “I” technically didn’t get this done, but since I was (mostly) keeping the kids out of Matt’s hair, I’d consider it a team effort 🙂

Last 3 things I read (not on the Internet): The Year of Pleasures by Elizabeth Berg (finished this one yesterday); Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff (which I’d read about 70% of before my library hold ran out, and now I finally have it again so I can finish the rest); and Little Town on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder (which is our current family read-aloud)
Last website I visited: my flower bulb wholesaler’s website, to see what was included in one of the mixes I planted last year (since I’m trying to identify what a few tulips are)
Last show I watched: a couple old episodes of The Office last night with Matt
Last thing I said: “Another day. You already had your treat for now.” (To Mathias, after a request for more hot chocolate.)
Last out-of-the-ordinary thing that happened: My middle child had an epic tantrum when we went to Walmart yesterday. This has never happened before with any of my kids, so I guess it was just our turn to be “that family” in the Walmart yesterday. Definitely not fun. I’ve decided that while I LOVE the two-year-old stage, the three-(almost four)-year-old stage has been really hard with both of my two older kids. Just so many Big Feelings ALL. THE. TIME.

Last thing I ate: cookie dough (I promise I don’t make cookies every day! Just on most of the days I do these kinds of posts apparently, ha ha)
Current whereabouts of other members of household: Hyrum is taking a nap, Matt is outside building another raised garden bed for me, and the older two kids are out in the garage pretending like they’re the Boxcar Children. I’m assuming the puppy is out there with them.
What I was doing an hour ago: Sowing zinnia seeds and putting them down in the grow room while I waited for one of my CSA (community-supported agriculture) bouquet subscription members to come and pick up her flowers.
What I’ll be doing an hour from now: Probably folding yet more laundry and trying to get a handle on the dishes. The house reaches truly impressive levels of disaster during spring since we’re just so dang busy doing flower farming stuff, so it’s all I can do to barely do the minimum each day to keep us in clean clothes and eating off clean dishes.
One thing I should be crossing off my to-do list today: I have several more trays of seeds I need to sow, so I’m hoping to continue to make headway there. I thought about transplanting more hardy annuals outside today, but with how cold it is, I think I’ll put that off until next week when the weather warms back up.

The never-ending laundry pile
