Since we’re rapidly approaching the end of October, I figured I’d best squeeze in a Snapshot of Today post before I ran out of time! I’ve loved doing these every month for the past several months, as it’s fun to look back and see how much things change (and don’t change) as time goes on.
Today has been a bit nuts (as Mondays are pretty much always going to be now) because I was doing my copy editing job for the local newspaper, which is a recent part-time gig I’ve taken on and which I now do almost exclusively from home every Monday for about 5-10 hours.
If you want to play along, you can copy the prompts at the bottom of the post to your own blog or repost them as a comment — I always love hearing about how your day has gone, too!

Time I woke up: 6:45 a.m. to my alarm and to the sound of the kids shutting our bedroom door so that they could surprise us by unloading our dishwasher all by themselves 🙂
First thing I did upon waking: after a quick prayer, I went out to the kitchen to thank the kiddos and to head them off from getting the cold cereal out since I’m trying to conserve the last of the milk so that it will last the rest of the month. (We had scrambled eggs and toast instead.)
Current weather: overcast but pleasant (around 60 degrees)
Last 3 things I read (not on the Internet): Lovely War (just finished last night), all the news copy for my copy editing job, and The Fierce Yellow Pumpkin by Margaret Wise Brown (to the kids)
Last website I visited: a wiki page that explained how to plant herbaceous peony roots (to double check how deep we should plant ours)
Last show I watched: a new episode of Relative Race last night. It’s by far our favorite show to watch!
Last thing I said: “Aw, you little nugget!” (to Hyrum)
Last out-of-the-ordinary thing that happened: Raven didn’t have school today because all the schools are on fall break, so I took all three kids to a park this morning. At our old house, we used to go to the nearby park all the time, but we haven’t gone much to the one around here because our backyard and back deck is so nice for the kids to play on that I haven’t really felt the need. This is actually only the second time we’ve done an official trip just to play at the park close by our house since moving here!
Last thing I ate: a handful of chocolate chips after having cheese and avocado tortillas for dinner
Current whereabouts of other members of household: (as of 4:45 p.m., when I was writing this) Matt is out tilling up garden beds to prepare them for planting, Raven is at a friend’s house, Mathias is taking a late nap, and Hyrum is running around our main floor playing with various toys that he can push
What I was doing an hour ago: Copy editing for the local newspaper (which is part of the part-time job I started last month)
What I’ll be doing an hour from now: I’m hoping the manager at the newspaper will be dropping off the printed copy to my house so I can proofread it all tonight, so fingers crossed that’s what I’m doing an hour from now! (If I don’t get the copy until really late, I sometimes have to do it Tuesday morning in a much narrower window of time.)
One thing I should be crossing off my to-do list today: planting the peony bare roots I purchased from a fellow flower farmer over the weekend
If you want to play along, copy and paste the following prompts to your own blog post and make sure to tag back to me so I can read all about your day!!
