Snapshot of Today

A Snapshot of My Life Today 9/23/21

Unbelievably, almost a month has passed since my last Snapshot of My Life Today post, so it looks like we’re due for another one!

While a lot looks similar to last month, there are several new things in the mix too. For starters, my middle child (who’s 3) just started going to preschool twice a week this month, which frees up two afternoons for me since he goes right when my youngest is napping. Our first flower farming season is also winding down, and we actually got our first couple of frosts this week, which killed off several of our more tender annuals. And then this week, I actually started a (very) part-time job working as the senior copy editor of our local newspaper, which will largely be a work-from-home situation but that this week had me “going into the office” on Monday for five hours for some training.

At the very least, we’re sure not bored over here!

Here’s a little glimpse of what today has looked like thus far:

Time I woke up: 6:45 a.m. to both my alarm going off and the two older kids coming in to snuggle
First thing I did upon waking: After a quick personal prayer, I went out to the kitchen to get breakfast started for the kids. We’ve struggled a bit with how early Raven’s school starts (she has to leave the house around 7:55 to get there on time), so Matt and I are trying to work on our tag-team skills to make our mornings a bit smoother. Matt takes Raven to school on his way to work, so by 8 a.m., it’s just me and the two boys at home.
Current weather: Partly cloudy and pleasant (72 degrees right now)

I’m pretty burnt out of flower farming now that we’re at the end of the season, but I did muster up the energy to do part of the harvesting I need to do by the end of today

Last 3 things I read (not on the Internet): 168 Hours by Laura Vanderkam (mixed feelings about this one), Lovely War by Julie Berry (super interesting premise thus far — am enjoying), The Flower Farmer by Lynn Byczynski
Last website I visited:
KSL (a Utah news station)
Last show I watched:
Big Bang Theory re-run (we don’t watch much t.v. other than one episode of some favorite show or other some nights, but we are excited that the new season of Relative Race started this last Sunday! It’s our favorite!!)
Last thing I said: “I love you, bugaboo!” (to Mathias as I dropped him off at Pre-K)
Last out-of-the-ordinary thing that happened:
Mathias was eagerly yelling this morning about seeing “reindeer” outside, so I came over to their playroom window and, sure enough, there are a whole bunch of deer in our front yard just hanging out. Not a super unusual sighting around here, but this is the first time I’ve seen them right in front of our window and so close to our house personally. (That’s actually what the black and white picture at the top of this post is of — the two boys watching the deer with the utmost fascination.)

Lunch today – roasted vegetables (most from our garden) over rice, with a homemade creamy chipotle sauce

Last thing I ate: cookie dough and Diet Dr. Pepper (I am nothing if not consistent)
Current whereabouts of other members of household:
Mathias is at preschool, Hyrum is sleeping, and Raven is at school. Matt’s at work.
What I was doing an hour ago:
Loading the dishwasher
What I’ll be doing an hour from now:
Probably cleaning up the kitchen more and dealing with the usual after-school craziness of homework and snacks
One thing I should be crossing off my to-do list today:
It’s my husband’s birthday tomorrow and I have a baby shower for my sister-in-law this weekend, so I’ve got some wrapping to do!

The kids helped me do a little fall decorating

As always, I’d love it if you played along by copying the prompts below into a comment or by doing a post on your own blog and linking back to me!
