Summerfest Weekend

Talk about a busy weekend full of food, family, and fun! Each year, Logan City hosts its annual Summerfest, which features local and out-of-town artists who make everything from on-the-spot portraits to handcrafted wood tables to spoon-and-fork sculptures.
As you might already know, Matt’s mom Sherry is a brilliant watercolor artist, and she came up to stay with us this weekend while the show was going on. She actually did the show last year too (check out that post here).
If you look really closely at the top left picture, you’ll see my absolute favorite painting of hers of all time (the one of yellow and white poppies). I was all set on saving up for the next gajillion months to buy it, but someone else already beat me to it. Guess she’ll have to do another one like it just for me 🙂
(Oh, in case you’re wondering–no, I did not just magically produce a baby and hide a pregnancy for 9 months: that’s our adorable niece Marie that Matt is holding).

Overall, this was a weekend to remember:

On Thursday morning, we went with Matt’s mom, aunt, and uncle to visit his great-aunt June.

On Thursday night, Sherry took us out to eat at Angie’s, and we ended up staying there for about an hour and a half and heard all about Sherry’s personal conversion story. It was one of those talks that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
On Friday, we got to celebrate Lyle and Ashley’s big day (which my mom and stepdad and all his family came up for).
On Saturday, Matt’s brother and sister-in-law and their family drove up, and we spent the day hanging out at Summerfest (where I met up with my friend Petrice for part of the day), coming home and taking naps, and then going out to eat with Matt’s family.
On Sunday, we enjoyed church, ate some butter-and-brown-sugar acorn squash, and then challenged the Shipleys (a couple in our ward) to another overcompetitive Hand and Foot game.
(P.S. We did the women against the men, and we women totally dominated. And I mean totally).

And now, here I am this bright Monday morning, ready for the break from our weekend.

Love that!
