As I mentioned earlier, we decided to have an afternoon reception, which was probably the smartest thing we’ve ever done. We ended up leaving for our first honeymoon destination around 6:00 pm, when there was still plenty of light left for driving.
I have been hearing rave reviews of The Blue Boar for years now from my family, and after hearing of the five-course brunch served the next morning, I knew we just had to go.

When we got there, there were congratulatory balloons in our room and a complimentary tray of cheese, crackers, and fruit. What’s not to love?
The next morning, after our worth-dying-from-heart-disease 5-course brunch, we headed down to St. George, where we’d be spending the week at a gorgeous condo owned by friends of my family. We totally hit the jackpot with our honeymoon destination–we were close enough to the “big city” stuff like movies and shopping, but we had plenty of time to spend doing activities closer to home base, like spending time in the hot tub and playing tennis and using the gym.
That condo in St. George has been one of my favorite places on earth after I started going there with my family a few years ago. Matt and I love it down there so much that we have a dream of owning a condo down there one day ourselves. Dreamin’ big, people. Dreamin’ big.
We spent one of the days down in Vegas, where we visited the Las Vegas Temple (breathtaking), ate the most expensive steak dinner of my life (mmm hmm!), and watched The Phantom of the Opera.

Another day was spent in Zion National Park (check out that post here) hiking up Angel’s Landing.
Let’s just say, what happens on Angel’s Landing stays on Angel’s Landing. Oh wait, that’s Vegas. Regardless, if you really want details, check out the other post. There are some beefy Germans involved.

The thing I loved most about our honeymoon though was the fact that we just got to relax. The semester that we were engaged was just so stressful between our classes and planning the wedding. When I asked Matt what he remembers from our wedding day and everything around it, he said, “The thing that stands out to me now is the contrast of being way stressed out to that of being totally relaxed and just enjoying being in love.”
I couldn’t say it better. Our honeymoon was just one perfect week of pure relaxation, where we could truly just enjoy being in love.
And we even watched Thor together. And I even liked it.
That made Matt love me even more.

(The weather was gorgeous the whole time we were there. Even the rain was enough to take your breath away)

I keep telling Matt that we should go on a honeymoon every summer.
It will at least work this summer, anyway! 🙂
